Cemetery Tree

2015-11 / Littleton, Colorado, USA

This was growing behind someone's tomb and I was just impressed by how massive it had become. My friend once told me a story that if you find a tree growing out of a grave, it's likely because, back in the days of olde when vampires were a legitimate fear people had, they would bury the dead with an acorn in their mouth if they suspected they may one day rise from the dead. I can't imagine that's true of all cemetery trees adjacent to tombstones, but I can't help but think of it every time I see one.
