Church on Spilt Blood Façade

2016-06 / Saint Petersburg, Russia

The first thing I did in Saint-Petersburg (after I got over my severe jetlag) was get myself down to the Church on Spilt Blood. I'd seen this church on countless postcards and in videos about Russia and on every Russian textbook I'd ever seen (well, equally with St. Basil's in Moscow.) and I was just so excited to see it for myself. You just can't find this gorgeous architecture anywhere else.It was also my first experience alone in Russia. I went by myself down to this area with my terrible grasp of the language, but managed to enjoy myself regardless. This inside of the church, however, is the most beautiful part. I was absolutely shocked when I made it inside.
